RI weightlifters winning in Asian youth c'ships
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian weightlifters won four golds, two silvers and two bronzes and broke five Asian Junior records in two Asian junior championships in Chonju, South Korea, from Nov. 18 to Nov. 23.
Boy's weightlifter Jadi Setiadi contributed three golds in the boy's 56kg weight division of the second Asian Youth (boy's and girl's) weightlifting championships in the snatch, clean and jerk and total lifting. He also sharpened three records originally set up by Yang Jian-gun of Chinese Taipei.
The 15-year-old boy lifted 105.0kgs in snatch and succeeded in his attempt to lift 137.5kgs in clean and jerk. He lifted a total of 242.5kgs to put him in the first place.
Jadi, who weighed 52.70kgs, broke the old record of 92.5kgs in snatch and 120.0kgs in clean and jerk. The old total lift record was 212.5kgs.
Girl's weightlifter Sri Hartati won a gold in the 48kgs division after lifting 85.0kgs in clean and jerk and earned two silvers by lifting 60.0kgs in snatch. She produced a total lift of 145.0kgs.
Sri broke two Asian junior records made by Li Jun-fei of China, who lifted 75kgs in clean and jerk and 135.0kgs in total lift.
Joko Hanggono grabbed two bronzes in the over 105.0kg division of the 13th Asian Junior Men's Championships after lifting 135.0kgs in snatch. He created a total lift of 315.0kgs.
The 2000 National Games gold medalist, however, was disqualified when he lifted 180.0kgs in clean and jerk, which only earned him the fourth place.
"Joko was almost successful in lifting 180.0kgs in clean and jerk but his left arm was shaky when he tried to lift up the barbels and the referee disqualified him," team manager Hadi Wihardja said on Friday.
Hadi said Indonesia missed the fifth Asian Junior Women's championships, which was held at the same time with two previously mentioned events.
"We planned to send Lisa Rumbewas to the junior event, but she said she would like to take a break after competing in the Sydney Olympics," he said.
Lisa earned a silver medal in the 48kg division in the Olympics. (ivy)
