RI sends more aid to Pakistan
JAKARTA: The Indonesian government has sent a second batch of humanitarian assistance to quake-hit Pakistan, the Indonesian Embassy in Pakistan has said.
The embassy was quoted as saying by Antara that Indonesia dispatched 13 tons of supplies worth Rp 750 million (US$75,000), comprising tents of various size, blankets, jackets and sleeping bags for the survivors to protect them from the harsh winter weather.
Indonesia had also helped the Pakistani government transport the supplies to the Pakistani capital of Islamabad. Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan Anwar Santoso handed the supplies over to Pakistani foreign ministry official Muhammad Anwar Cholan at Chaklala military air base in Islamabad, Antara said on Tuesday.
The Indonesian community in Islamabad has also donated a total of $25,000 to the relief effort.
The first batch of humanitarian assistance, consisting of 12 tons of food, medicines and blankets, were sent on Oct. 13. The earthquake on Oct. 8 left more than 80,000 people dead and tens of thousands injured. -- JP
