RI-Israel relation
RI-Israel relation
From Gatra
The Indonesian government should not consider diplomatic
relations with Israel too hastily. First, because the
comprehensive peace talks between all Arab countries and Israel
have not been finalized. Not all Arab countries (in the Middle
East) recognize Israel. If, in the meantime, there is a country
that has signed a peace treaty, that is due to American and
European countries' pressure, and because Israel wants to
maintain its hegemony and control in the Middle East region.
Second, establishing diplomatic relations with Israel would
only mean that Indonesia recognizes the existence of the Israeli
nation, which has full sovereignty over its occupied (Arab)
territories. This is clearly contradictory to the Indonesian
Constitution, which rejects all forms of colonization of one
country over another country.
Third, Indonesia would not benefit economically or politically
from such relations. Economically, Israel is a poor country,
which depends on aid from the Unites States and European
countries for its survival. Also it has no natural resources,
like oil.
Politically, Indonesia would risk isolation from the
international arena, particularly with Arab countries, if
relations with Israel are established. Israel is only
technologically sophisticated in its warfare and its aggressive
attitude and we have no interest in such sophistication.
