The Indonesian government should not consider diplomatic
\nrelations with Israel too hastily. First, because the
\ncomprehensive peace talks between all Arab countries and Israel
\nhave not been finalized. Not all Arab countries (in the Middle
\nEast) recognize Israel. If, in the meantime, there is a country
\nthat has signed a peace treaty, that is due to American and
\nEuropean countries' pressure, and because Israel wants to
\nmaintain its hegemony and control in the Middle East region.<\/p>\n
Second, establishing diplomatic relations with Israel would
\nonly mean that Indonesia recognizes the existence of the Israeli
\nnation, which has full sovereignty over its occupied (Arab)
\nterritories. This is clearly contradictory to the Indonesian
\nConstitution, which rejects all forms of colonization of one
\ncountry over another country.<\/p>\n
Third, Indonesia would not benefit economically or politically
\nfrom such relations. Economically, Israel is a poor country,
\nwhich depends on aid from the Unites States and European
\ncountries for its survival. Also it has no natural resources,
\nlike oil.<\/p>\n
Politically, Indonesia would risk isolation from the
\ninternational arena, particularly with Arab countries, if
\nrelations with Israel are established. Israel is only
\ntechnologically sophisticated in its warfare and its aggressive
\nattitude and we have no interest in such sophistication.<\/p>\n
