RI aims for two golds in physics contest

JAKARTA: Indonesia is banking on the Asian champions in its bid to bag two gold medals in the 36th Physics Olympiad in Salamanca, Spain.

Andika Putra of Sutomo senior high school in Medan, Purnawirman of the SMAN 1 state senior high school in Pekanbaru, Ali Sucipto of Xaverius I senior high school in Palembang and Michael Ardian of Regina Pacis senior high school in Bogor formed the backbone of the team following their win in the Asian Physics Olympiad in the Riau capital of Pekanbaru in April. Ario Prabowo of Taruna Nusantara senior high school in Magelang has been picked for the world competition after winning a bronze in the Asian meet.

The team left the country on Saturday for the competition, which will run from July 3 through July 12.

The Ministry of National Education said it was funding the Spanish trip for the students. -- JP
