RI accused of dumping
BRUSSELS (Reuter): The European Commission has begun dumping
inquiries into polyester yarn exports to the European Union from
Thailand, Indonesia and India.
Commission action, detailed in the EU's Official Journal,
follows a complaint by the Comite International de la Rayonne et
des Fibers Synthetiques (CIRFS) on behalf of certain European
Union producers of polyester filament yarn.
"The complaint has stated and provided sufficient evidence
that imports...have increased from 4,500 tons in 1991 to 13,000
tons in 1993," the Commission said Monday, adding that
corresponding market share rose from 1.9 percent to six percent.
CIRFS told the Commission that Community prices had fallen 20
percent since 1992 due to the pressure exerted by allegedly
dumped imports rather than lower raw material prices.
Dumping margins -- the difference between domestic and export
prices -- ranged from nine percent for Indian yarn to 35 percent
for Thai-produced yarn, CIRFS said.
The Commission invited interested parties to comment, in
writing, by the end of August.
