Revision of the National Education System Law, Bonnie Triyana: Teachers Must Be 1,000% Prosperous, Their Wages Must Be Decent
JAKARTA - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle faction, Bonnie Triyana, has emphasised the commitment of all factions in DPR RI Commission X to improve teachers’ welfare through the revision of the National Education System Law (Sisdiknas).
According to Bonnie, all commission members agree that the teaching profession must receive decent income, not just meeting minimum standards.
“All of us, regardless of party, agree 1,000% that teachers must be prosperous and their wages must be decent. No more talk of minimums,” said Bonnie during the Commission X DPR RI meeting on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
In her presentation, Bonnie also highlighted the ongoing disparities in educational conditions in several areas of Banten.
She noted that several regions still face limitations in educational infrastructure, from damaged schools to a shortage of teaching staff.
Bonnie cited the situation in the Lebak area, particularly around Rangkasbitung, which is geographically not too far from Jakarta, yet still faces various limitations, including areas without telecommunications signals.
“There are cases where the teacher teaches alone, the school is in ruins—not rombel but rombeng. Many students are also suffering and need attention, even though geographically it’s not far away,” she explained.
Bonnie said she had raised these issues with Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, to garner special attention from the government.
According to her, improving teachers’ welfare must go hand in hand with enhancing the quality of learning, both in terms of academic achievements and character building for students.
