The government has issued an exhortation for the implementation of work from home (WFH) for one day per week in the private sector, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and regional state-owned enterprises (ROSOEs). This exhortation is regulated in the Circular Letter of the Minister of Manpower No. M/6/HK.04/III/2026 on work from home and the programme for optimising energy utilisation in the workplace. Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the WFH policy is enforced as part of efforts to save national fuel oil (BBM) usage amid rising volatility in global oil prices due to the Iran-Israel conflict. Here are some provisions for implementing WFH for one day per week in the private sector, SOEs, and ROSOEs as regulated in the Minister of Manpower’s Circular Letter: Yassierli stated that the WFH exhortation for one day per week in these business sectors takes effect from 1 April 2026. “As conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy last night, we want 1 April to become a national momentum together. So this exhortation is to be followed and implemented effectively starting today,” he said. In the circular letter, companies are urged to implement WFH for one working day per week. This means the policy is not mandatory. Regarding the implementation day for WFH, the government does not specify it particularly. Companies may determine the day deemed most suitable for their operational needs. “So it is in the nature of an exhortation. Each company certainly has its own uniqueness, so the technical aspects related to work from home are left to the companies,” said Yassierli. Nevertheless, Yassierli mentioned that companies may choose Friday if they wish to align with the policy for civil servants (ASN). “But each company certainly has its own characteristics and uniqueness, so the technical details are returned to each company,” he added. The Minister of Manpower also emphasised that the implementation of WFH must not reduce workers’ rights.
