Revealed! 2,424 Taxpayers Fail to Repatriate, Purbaya Takes This Action
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has emphasised that there will be no efforts to audit participants in the tax amnesty and Voluntary Asset Disclosure Programme (PPS) who are deemed not to have fully fulfilled their obligations.
As is known, Director General of Taxation Bimo Wijayanto previously stated that audits would be conducted on 2022 PPS participants who had not carried out repatriation or had inaccurately disclosed their assets.
Purbaya said this statement had caused unrest in the business world. The former LPS chief also promised to reprimand the Directorate General of Taxation regarding this matter. He further emphasised that business actors who participated in the second round of tax amnesty would no longer be disturbed or questioned about their affairs, as reporting and examination procedures had already been completed.
“So that will not be done again. I will reprimand the DJP to maintain the business climate and public trust,” Purbaya explained.
Nevertheless, Purbaya stated that there are 2,424 taxpayers who failed to carry out repatriation and 35,000 taxpayers who still under-declared their assets. Purbaya promised to follow up, but he could not disclose it at this time.
“We will investigate further later; I can’t answer now,” he stated.
Although follow-up actions will be taken, Purbaya emphasised that the tax amnesty is over. He will not continue this policy during his tenure as Finance Minister.
Instead of pursuing tax amnesty, Purbaya said he will focus on chasing those who have never disclosed their assets.
“For me, the tax amnesty is finished, but what I will pursue are those who did not participate, who did not disclose truthfully; that is what we will chase,” said Purbaya.
