Returning to Indonesia from Thailand, You'll Now Have to Pay Rp 608,000
Planning a holiday to Thailand? Prepare an additional Rp 608,000 to pay when leaving the Land of the White Elephant and returning to Indonesia. This is because, starting 20 June 2026, aircraft passengers departing from Thailand to foreign countries will be charged a new international departure Passenger Service Charge (PSC) of 1,120 baht, or approximately Rp 608,000 per person. This figure represents a significant increase from the previous rate of 730 baht. The PSC hike applies to six airports managed by AOT. The increase follows a decision from a meeting of the Civil Aviation Board of Thailand on 3 December 2025, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. AOT assesses that this tariff adjustment will not affect tourists’ travel decisions. They state that Thailand’s PSC remains lower than at international airports in many other countries. Additionally, a survey of passengers and airlines indicates that the new PSC is considered reasonable and not a major factor in choosing destinations. With the PSC rate increase, AOT estimates additional revenue of around 10 billion baht per year. These funds will be used to improve various airport facilities and services, including… AOT also emphasises that the PSC is not a tax, but an operational fee entirely reinvested in airport development. Airlines generally agree with the PSC increase but urge AOT to implement real service enhancements concurrently with the new fee rollout. AOT claims to have incorporated this feedback into its long-term operational plans. However, AOT is also preparing a proposal to impose PSC on transit or transfer passengers, noting that 90 percent of the world’s airports already apply such a policy. Revenue from this fee will be directed towards improving transit services.
