Return of Dozens of Indonesian Citizens to Indonesia Amid Iran and US-Israel Conflict
TANGERANG – Relief was evident on the faces of dozens of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who arrived from Iran at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang City on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
After undertaking a long journey amid escalating conflict caused by attacks from the United States and Israel, the Indonesian citizens were finally able to return to their homeland.
The arrival of the Indonesian citizens was marked by an emotional atmosphere. One female Indonesian citizen who had just arrived immediately ran to embrace her mother who had been waiting for her. The two could not hold back tears after finally being reunited.
The mother held her daughter tightly for several moments before wiping her cheeks and kissing her forehead.
Foreign Minister Sugiono, who was present, warmly welcomed the arrival of the Indonesian citizens.
“We extend our welcome back to the homeland and congratulations on reuniting with your families in this blessed month,” said Sugiono.
“Tomorrow, another 10 will depart from Iran,” said Sugiono at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang City on Tuesday.
He stated that the government was continuing to facilitate the evacuation process for other Indonesian citizens who wished to return to Indonesia.
According to him, dozens of other Indonesian citizens have thus far registered for the subsequent evacuation process.
“For the second wave, currently 36 Indonesian citizens have registered to be evacuated from Iran,” he said.
Sugiono assured that his office would continue to monitor developments in Iran before determining the schedule for the next evacuation.
“Registration has only just begun. The number is 36 Indonesian citizens. As for the timing, we will discuss that first, because there are several considerations related to the situation,” he said.
“Hopefully we will have completed this within the week,” Sugiono said.
