The home should be the primary fortress of protection and the safest place for women and children. However, social reality shows that violence often occurs in the closest environments. Recognising this significant challenge, the Sumedang Regency Government is taking proactive steps by strengthening cross-sectoral synergy to ensure comprehensive protection for these vulnerable groups.

Sumedang Bupati Dony Ahmad Munir asserted that the issue of violence against women and children is not solely the responsibility of one institution, but a collective duty of all stakeholders. During a cross-sectoral coordination meeting he led, the Bupati invited all elements of government and society to sit together and seek sustainable solutions.

The Sumedang Regency Government considers that handling violence cannot be done partially. A shared commitment is needed to create a safe, comfortable, and conducive environment for families. The Bupati stressed the importance of mutual reinforcement between agencies and the community, rather than blaming each other when cases occur in the field.

β€œAll parties must be present as part of the solution and strengthen each other in facing various social problems in the community. In dealing with issues like this, both the government and the community must strengthen each other, not blame each other,” Bupati Dony Ahmad Munir stated on Tuesday (30/6/2026).

In an effort to reduce the rate of violence, the Sumedang Regency Government is promoting four main pillars of approach. The concrete steps taken include strengthening family resilience, character education from an early age, and instilling religious and moral values. Additionally, counselling services and improving literacy regarding mental health and reproductive health are priorities to equip the community with adequate knowledge.

Keeping pace with the times, the Sumedang Regency Government will also utilise information technology to support these protection systems. The Bupati instructed relevant regional apparatus to immediately formulate a Regional Action Plan (RAD) for the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children. This RAD must be prepared in an integrated manner, encompassing clear targets, measurable success indicators, and regular monitoring and reporting mechanisms.

Beyond prevention, law enforcement remains a serious concern. The Bupati emphasised the importance of a swift, professional, and fair legal process for perpetrators, while ensuring maximum protection for witnesses and victims through close coordination with law enforcement officials.
