Jakarta — Jusuf Kalla, who has served as Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President, said that as the world’s largest Muslim country, Indonesia should take a firm stance on the conflict involving Iran, particularly if the country is attacked. In a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, JK said Indonesia should show its backing for the country that has been attacked. He argued that such a stance is important to ensure Indonesia remains consistent in promoting cooperation with countries in the Asia region and the wider Islamic world. ‘As a country that has been attacked and suffered, Indonesia must have a position. Logically, we should side with the country under attack,’ JK said. JK added that Indonesia’s status as the world’s largest Muslim country is expected to yield a clear position in responding to conflicts involving Muslim nations. In addition, JK said Indonesia should not remain neutral without showing backing. According to him, the issue should be discussed and solutions sought in international forums such as the Board of Peace. ‘If it cannot be resolved through the peace forum, what is the point of us being part of it? That is, Indonesia must voice a firm stance,’ JK said in the statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
