President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim engaged in a deep discussion via telephone to address the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. Anwar conveyed this in a press statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
In this strategic communication, the leaders of these kindred nations agreed to emphasise the importance of a sustained diplomatic approach to ease tensions in the Middle East and safeguard civilian lives.
“In yesterday’s (Monday) telephone call with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, we exchanged views on various current issues, including the Iran-Israel conflict,” Anwar stated in Kuala Lumpur.
Besides discussing regional matters, the two leaders agreed to hold a meeting in the near future. This meeting includes plans for Anwar’s visit to Jakarta to bolster bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
“Touching on regional and international issues, we also exchanged views on the Iran-Israel conflict and the importance of a sustained diplomatic approach,” Anwar remarked.
Anwar stressed that both leaders called for peace, highlighting the protection of civilians and the opening of meaningful negotiation spaces.
“So that tensions can be reduced, civilian lives protected, and meaningful negotiation spaces opened towards a peaceful and sustainable resolution,” Anwar said.
Previously, President Prabowo also contacted several other national leaders as part of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebrations, including Anwar Ibrahim. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that this communication is part of efforts to maintain closeness and strengthen inter-state cooperation.
He added that the communication was conducted during the meaningful momentum of Eid al-Fitr and is expected to further strengthen diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.
