Respecting Indonesia, Russia Remains Unwilling to Join the Board of Peace, Ambassador Tolchenov: No Palestinian Representation There
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Russia understands Indonesia’s decision to join the Board of Peace, initiated by the US. However, Russia maintains its conviction not to join for clear reasons.
Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, stated that Moscow does not support the UN Security Council resolution that initiated the formation of the Board of Peace.
“Because we know that the Board of Peace does not mention the two-state solution or the establishment and recognition of a Palestinian state,” said Tolchenov, during an iftar gathering at the ambassador’s residence in Jakarta, Thursday (26/2/2026).
Furthermore, Tolchenov clarified that there is no Palestinian representation within the Board of Peace. Instead of involving Palestine, the Board of Peace includes Israel. “Palestine is not involved, how can this be?” he asked.
However, Russia respects the countries that have joined the Board of Peace, including Indonesia. Russia will observe the implementation of the Board of Peace and the International Stability Force (ISF) in Gaza.
“We understand Indonesia’s decision to protect Palestine. President and Foreign Minister Sugiono also remain committed to supporting the two-state solution,” he said.
Tolchenov suspects that the formation of the Board of Peace is not only for resolving the issue in the Middle East but also other conflicts, such as in Ukraine. He again questioned the representation of the Board of Peace, which does not involve major countries. “The Board of Peace does not represent major countries such as China and Russia,” he said.
