Residents' Waste Disrupts Jagorawi Toll Road During Eid, Jasa Marga Builds Embankment
Traffic flow on the Jagorawi Toll Road section was temporarily disrupted due to water pooling that covered part of the road on the first day of Eid, Saturday (21/3/2026). Field investigations revealed that piles of rubbish from residential drainage channels were the main cause of the toll road’s drainage system failing to handle the rainwater volume. The accumulation of waste along the outer side of the toll road reportedly blocked the inlet channels, causing water from residential areas to overflow beyond capacity (backflow) and spill onto the road surface. In response to the situation, Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad (JMT) along with the maintenance unit immediately carried out manual rubbish clearance to accelerate water flow. At the same time, traffic management was implemented by closing the road shoulder up to lane 2, leaving lanes 3 and 4 for road users’ mobility. “Officers immediately took initial handling steps by clearing rubbish in the channels to speed up the obstructed water flow,” explained Widiyatmiko, quoted from a press statement on Sunday (22/3/2026). Extreme weather impacts also affected service facilities. The Rest Area at KM 10 towards Bogor was temporarily closed at 19:45 WIB after a river overflow behind the area submerged the clean water pump and the petrol station. This step was taken to ensure fuel quality was not contaminated by water and to maintain the functional safety of the petrol station equipment. Recognising that the waste problem from residential areas is a recurring issue, Jasa Marga is preparing a long-term strategy. In addition to intensive coordination with related agencies outside the toll road authority, the company will build additional infrastructure. By Sunday (22/3/2026), all flooding points had reportedly receded completely. A challenge arose at KM 03+800 due to the high flow of the Cipinang River, but four pump units operated at the location successfully prevented the overflow from spreading to the main lanes. Jasa Marga expressed apologies for the inconvenience and urged road users to continue monitoring traffic conditions via the Travoy application or the One Call Center 14080 (previously 133).
