Jakarta – Residents held another protest rally rejecting the construction project for a funeral home and crematorium on Jalan Utan Jati, Kalideres, West Jakarta on Saturday afternoon.

This action was a continuation of a protest the previous week when residents demanded that the funeral home and crematorium construction project be halted.

Observations at the location showed that the action involved not only residents of Perumahan Citra 2, but also residents from settlements surrounding the funeral home site.

However, unlike the previous week, residents were forced to deliver speeches at the roadside this time, as the project site had been enclosed with corrugated metal fencing.

A Building Approval (PBG) notice issued by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, dated 26 January 2026, was posted on the project barrier.

Community Coordinator Budiman Tandiono stressed that the group was holding this action again because demands from the first protest had not yielded results.

“Yes, we continue to reject the construction of this funeral home. Our first action did not succeed in halting it,” he said.

This action is to permanently stop the funeral home construction because it does not comply with local regulations. “This is a densely populated area. In front, behind, to the side, left and right – all residents,” he said.

Budiman also questioned the issuance of the Building Approval (PBG) without environmental documentation.

“They say the PBG has been issued, but there is no AMDAL (Environmental Impact Analysis) yet, no UPL (Environmental Management Effort),” he said.

Budiman noted that the location was previously designated for public facilities and social facilities, including green open space and sports areas.

According to Budiman, opposition comes from several neighbourhoods, including community associations in Pegadungan and Kalideres.

He appreciated the instruction from the West Jakarta City Government to temporarily halt the funeral home construction. However, residents are requesting permanent suspension.

“We thank the West Jakarta Mayor’s office for appreciating our request, but we ask for it to be stopped permanently. There should be no construction of a crematorium or funeral home in this area,” he said.

“Approximately six community associations are affected. We also ask that the officials who issued the permit be investigated – how did this permit get issued?” he said.

Meanwhile, in his speech, a representative from RW 017, Budi Switarno, requested direct attention from DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.

“Governor, please sir. This is the first time we are appealing to you, Governor. We are your supporters, this is our home, this is for our children’s future. Please. If our aspirations are not heard, then we agree that in the gubernatorial election we will not vote for you again,” he said.

Earlier, the West Jakarta City Government through the Environmental Agency (Sudin LH) oversaw environmental permits or environmental approvals for the construction of the Swarga Abadi funeral home and crematorium on Jalan Utan Jati, Kalideres.

“Environmental approval begins with the creation of environmental documentation. Currently, the environmental documentation is being prepared by the Swarga Abadi Foundation,” said Hariadi when contacted in Jakarta on Friday (27/2).

Based on Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021, this documentation serves as the basis for environmental approval and licensing, including UPL and AMDAL.

The foundation was asked to submit a guidance application for environmental document screening. What is currently being done is a request for technical approval guidance (pertek) for wastewater management and technical details (rintek) for B3 waste management (hazardous and toxic materials).

“Additionally, they were also asked to simultaneously prepare emission technical approval (pertek) and Andalalin (Traffic Impact Analysis),” Hariadi said.
