Residents Complain About Traffic Jams on Rasuna Said, Pramono Considers It an Effect of Construction
A number of residents are complaining about the traffic congestion currently occurring on Jalan Rasuna Said in South Jakarta. This is because parts of the road in that area cannot be traversed due to the ongoing construction project.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has acknowledged that traffic jams frequently occur on Jalan Rasuna Said at present. According to him, this is due to the construction of a pedestrian pathway in the area, following the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) dismantling the monorail pillars that have been abandoned for decades.
“For Rasuna Said, this is indeed in the completion stage for the pedestrian area, especially since we realise there is indeed a problem. Because it’s impossible to build without any effects,” he said at the Jakarta Provincial DPRD Building on Monday (13/4/2026).
Nevertheless, he is confident that the construction of the pedestrian pathway on Jalan Rasuna Said will bring positive impacts for the wider community. In fact, Jalan Rasuna Said is projected to become like the Sudirman-Thamrin area.
Regarding the congestion, Pramono stated that his side will continue to manage traffic on the ground. He hopes the project can be completed by June 2026.
“And for the arrangements, hopefully there is a target: on 22 June I will inaugurate it as a gift to Jakarta, and it will become something new. That Rasuna Said, more or less hopefully can be like Sudirman-Thamrin,” he said.
It is known that the Jakarta Provincial Government began dismantling the pillars along Jalan Rasuna Said in South Jakarta on Wednesday (14/1/2026). The dismantling is part of the redevelopment of Jalan Rasuna Said.
The budget prepared for the project reaches Rp 102 billion. This budget is not entirely for the dismantling, but also includes the redevelopment of the area, such as road arrangements, drainage, sidewalks, street lighting, and other supporting facilities in the area.
