JAKARTA — Several residents admit they are starting to doubt reporting complaints through the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) app after a case emerged involving alleged manipulation of report follow-ups using artificial intelligence (AI) in Kalisari sub-district, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.

Atar (18), a resident of Kampung Dukuh, Kramat Jati, says he previously reported various issues through JAKI frequently, from dead streetlights to traffic violations. However, he is now hesitant to use the app following the manipulation case.

“I’ve made several reports, like dead lights and wrong-way driving, but now I’m doubtful after what happened yesterday,” Atar said when met in the area on Friday (10/4/2026).

“It’s outrageous, reports are public concerns that shouldn’t be taken lightly; they should be acted upon,” Atar added.

Unlike Atar, Indra (34), a resident of Duren Sawit, says he will continue using JAKI to submit reports despite the viral manipulation case. He believes reporting remains important so that on-the-ground problems can be addressed.

“Yes, I’ll keep reporting; if because of yesterday’s (AI case) I stop, then the bad things won’t get fixed,” Indra said.

According to him, improvements to the report follow-up system are crucial to restoring public trust in the app.

“I’m a migrant and I see JAKI as really good, especially since everything can be reported, so the follow-up system must be made credible,” he added.

In agreement, Puji (40), a resident of Pondok Kelapa, also says he will continue using JAKI to lodge complaints. He hopes for improvements following the case.

“I’ll keep reporting; there must be fixes after yesterday, although it will surely make residents more aware and thorough regarding follow-ups,” he said.

Puji added that the JAKI app is quite helpful for residents, from reporting damaged roads to dead streetlights.

Previously, the Jakarta Inspectorate examined three officials from Kalisari sub-district, East Jakarta, after findings of photo manipulation using AI to follow up on resident reports via the JAKI app.

The examination results indicated that public works and facilities handling staff (PPSU) were proven to have fabricated report photos, while the sub-district head and two other Kalisari officials were deemed negligent in supervision.

“The examination results show that the AI photos were created and uploaded by PPSU to respond to wild parking reports from the JAKI app,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin when confirmed on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

The examination was conducted on the Kalisari sub-district head, the Head of the Economy and Development Section (Kasi Ekbang), and the Head of the Government Section. The three were examined following public reports that were responded to using manipulated AI photos.

“So the Inspectorate’s examination results state that the Kalisari sub-district head, Kasi Ekbang, and Kasi Pemerintahan were deemed negligent in controlling and supervising their subordinates’ duties, namely the PPSU,” Munjirin said.
