Residents and Traders Respond to Emergence of 'Padel Village' in Tangerang
A district in Tangerang Regency, Banten, has suddenly been dubbed ‘Padel Village’ due to the proliferation of padel courts there. The location is in Pagerhaur and Rancalele villages, Pagedangan sub-district.
Residents and traders have voiced their opinions about the increasing number of padel courts in their village. What do they say?
Some are Close to Residents’ Homes
detikcom investigated the location of the padel courts in Pagedangan. Based on observations on Tuesday (24/2/2026), there are approximately seven padel courts in the two villages along Jalan Raya Pagedangan. The locations of the courts are close together, and some are opposite each other.
In Rancalele, for example, there are two adjacent courts. The distance between the two courts is only about 10-15 metres.
In Pagerhaur, there are about six padel courts. The distance between the courts is also close. Some are side-by-side, opposite each other, and the furthest distance is about 10-15 metres.
Most of the padel courts there have parking spaces. However, some have parking areas that are separate from the court location.
There are also padel court locations that are right next to residential areas. They are located next to the walls of residents’ houses.
In other words, residents who own the houses can directly see people playing padel from their windows. Meanwhile, other locations are located among shops, food stalls, and workshops.
In addition to the padel courts, other sports facilities can be found, such as a gym, golf course, and badminton court. There is even a shop selling sports equipment specifically for padel and golf.
Residents Welcome Job Opportunities
Residents say they are not disturbed by the activity at the padel courts that have proliferated in their area. They believe that the activity has made the area more lively and has also created job opportunities.
“No, I don’t feel disturbed,” said Taufik, a resident of RT 03 RW 02, Pagerhaur, when met at his home on Tuesday (24/2).
Taufik said that the padel court next to his house was built around 2024. Previously, the land was a garden and a bush.
“It was just gardens, with rambutan and jackfruit trees. Then, this padel court was built,” he said, pointing to the court right next to his house.
The padel court near Taufik’s house also appears to have created another area next to it for parking.
Taufik said that now, every day, Pagerhaur village is bustling. Previously, it was quiet before the padel courts proliferated.
“Before, it was quiet, deserted, and there were a lot of ghosts. Now, thank God, it’s become more lively, and the residents are happy,” he explained.
Taufik added that the presence of the padel court near his house has had a positive impact. According to him, some of his unemployed neighbours now have jobs at the padel court.
“Those who were unemployed now have jobs. Thank God, there are job opportunities here. Before, many people were unemployed,” he said.
He continued that some of the jobs that residents around the area have obtained include cleaning staff, parking attendants, and gardeners. According to him, the padel court there is a blessing for the residents.
Another resident of Pagerhaur, Nikmah, also said that she does not object to the presence of the padel court there. According to her, the padel court makes the atmosphere more lively.
“For the residents, it used to be quiet, but now that it’s a padel court, it’s lively. Before, it was a garden,” said Nikmah.
Traders’ Expectations
The presence of ‘Padel Village’ on Jalan Raya Pagedangan is considered to have made the residents’ environment more lively. Traders in the area also say they are benefiting.
Nurjaman, a young coconut ice vendor, said that the atmosphere on Jalan Raya Pagedangan has indeed become more lively. He said that this condition has had an impact on his business, although not yet significantly.
“There is a change, but not too much,” said Nurjaman to reporters on Tuesday (24/2/2026).
The location of Nurjaman’s young coconut ice stall is right in front of two padel courts. However, according to him, not many padel players have bought from him.
“Yes, sometimes there are. Sometimes,” he said.
Nurjaman said that he is not disturbed by the activity at the padel court. He sees that many residents around the area have found new jobs thanks to the proliferation of padel courts.
“In this area, I don’t think it’s a problem. In fact, the residents seem to support it. Because the people here can get jobs, who were previously unemployed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iyeng, a juice vendor, hopes to benefit after the proliferation of padel courts. He said that his business has not yet significantly benefited.
“I hope they buy some, buy ice. Yes, I can get some extra income,” he said.
He said that only a few people have bought from him after playing padel. He said that the padel courts have only started to become busy in the last two months.
Furthermore, Nikmah, the owner of a coffee shop nearby, said that her stall remains quiet because few padel players stop by. Although its location is right behind one of the padel courts.
“It’s lively, it’s quite lively. But my stall is quiet,” said Nikmah.
