Report unsubstantiated: Editor

The report that people close to the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) had injected fresh funds into national daily Republika was unsubstantiated, The Jakarta Post chief editor Raymond Toruan said Thursday.

"The news report is not only unsubstantiated but also inaccurate," said Toruan, referring to a Post's news article that the PDI Perjuangan, which is chaired by President Megawati Soekarnoputri, had bought shares and injected fresh capital into the daily.

According to the editor, the news article, which appeared on the Post's front page on Thursday, was not supported by hard facts and was not in line with the law on publicly listed companies.

He also pointed out that from the view point of news structure, the reference to the Republika daily should not have been put in the news article.

"Although it was not intentional on the part of the Post, we regret whatever negative consequences this news report has caused," said the editor.
