Reorganising Cawang Urban Forest Following Concerns About Nighttime Activities
Jakarta – A viral video alleging immoral activities in Cawang Urban Forest has prompted a rapid response from the Jakarta Provincial Government.
Surveillance has been intensified, access points have been closed, and CCTV cameras will be installed throughout the park.
Governor Pramono Anung of Jakarta has instructed the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to take immediate action. “If the information is indeed accurate, I will follow up immediately. I will request that Satpol PP clean up the area,” said Pramono after attending a joint iftar event at Al Hamid Putra Islamic Boarding School in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Saturday 28 February 2026.
“We will address everything. This will also include installing CCTV cameras,” he added.
According to Pramono, public spaces must not be misused. “Jakarta cannot have spaces like this,” he stated firmly.
Satriadi Gunawan, Head of the Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit, confirmed that routine patrols are being conducted, particularly during nighttime hours. “Currently we conduct patrols around Cawang Urban Forest every night. We also coordinate with the Parks and Urban Forest Service (Distamhut) as they have their own field officers,” said Satriadi on Sunday 1 March 2026.
“We also recently conducted patrols at Daan Mogot for similar concerns,” he added.
The Civil Service Police Unit will also install advisory banners to discourage visitors from engaging in immoral behaviour.
The East Jakarta City Government has permanently sealed two vulnerable access points to the park through concrete barriers. This step was taken jointly with the Parks and Urban Forest Service.
Dimas Prayudi, Camat of Makasar District, said the measure was implemented in cooperation with the Sub-district Parks and Urban Forest Service.
