PARIS (AFP): Renault has signed an agreement with Malaysian
company Inokom for the production in Malaysia of a commercial
vehicle based on the Traffic van, Renault said yesterday.
The agreement, which was signed on Friday, allows Inokom a
license under royalty to manufacture variations of the vehicle
powered by petrol or diesel engines.
Inokom is to produce 5,000 vehicles per year. Some of the
parts are to be manufactured locally and some are to be provided
by Renault. The vehicle is to be sold with the name Inokom.
A factory is being built 400 kilometers (250 miles) from Kuala
Lumpur for completion at the end of 1996.
A Malaysian company, Quasar Carriage, has also signed the
agreement. This company is to be responsible for marketing
Renault vehicles in Malaysia.
