Reminder to Public Not to Panic Buy Fuel, Bahlil: Use It Sparingly
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has reminded the public not to engage in panic buying of fuel oil (BBM). He emphasised that buying fuel in large quantities is unnecessary and urged people to use it sparingly. “If, for example, one day you need 30 litres or 40 litres, that’s sufficient. There’s no need for panic buying. Just use it as needed,” Bahlil explained, as quoted from Kompas.com on Thursday (26/3/2026). “Don’t let there be queues at petrol stations with cars and trucks. Even though they’re not for transporting goods, but once filled, they’re queued again to be resold,” he added. Especially in the current global crisis, he hopes that fuel hoarding by certain individuals will stop for the common good. The government acknowledges that it cannot work alone to maintain national energy supply stability. The participation of all society is required. Meanwhile, Bahlil guaranteed the availability of energy during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr return flow. Not only for fossil fuel motorcycles, but energy resilience for electric motorcycles is also ensured during the return flow. “We have checked the availability of BBM, both diesel and petrol, including charging stations for electric vehicles and several power plants,” he explained, as quoted from Antara on Thursday (26/3/2026). “If cooking with LPG, once the food is cooked, don’t waste the stove,” he said. Furthermore, the Indonesian government is striving to find oil supplies from sources other than the Middle East. Diversification of crude oil supply is deliberately carried out to maintain national energy resilience.
