Remembering Try Sutrisno: Cak Imin Pays Tribute to His Long Legacy of Service to Indonesia
Jakarta – Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), expressed his condolences over the death of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno, who passed away on Monday at 06.58 WIB at RSPAD Gatot Subroto Military Hospital in Jakarta, at the age of 90.
“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi roji’un. We are all saddened by the passing of Try Sutrisno. He has left a long legacy of service to Indonesia,” said Muhaimin Iskandar, commonly known as Cak Imin, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
According to him, Try Sutrisno leaves behind a legacy of leadership and commitment to maintaining national unity during his service in both the government and the military.
“We have learned that a position is a sacred trust, and service is an honour. He fulfilled it with full responsibility,” he said.
Cak Imin also prayed that the deceased would find the best place beside God and that his surviving family would be granted steadfastness.
“May the deceased achieve a good ending, and may his family be granted steadfastness and strength. Farewell, General. Thank you for your service to Indonesia,” he added.
The news of Try Sutrisno’s death was confirmed by State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi.
“We express our deepest condolences. I have requested RSPAD Garrison of the State Secretary’s Office to provide the best care,” said Prasetyo when contacted.
The deceased’s remains are planned to be taken to his residence in the Purwakarta Street area, Menteng, Central Jakarta, before further honours and burial proceedings.
Try Sutrisno was known as a military figure and statesman who served as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia from 1993 to 1998. His passing adds to the list of national figures who have passed away in 2026, and serves as an opportunity for reflection on the contributions and service of Indonesia’s national leaders.
