Religious teachers wanted

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: A local church leader said many schools
in Irian Jaya have been without teachers of Christianity.

Father M.F.Rumsarwir, the head of the Kristen Injili Church
synod, which runs hundreds of schools in the province, blamed the
shortage on a central government policy of permitting only three
new religious teachers to be appointed each year.

The church runs 225 primary schools, 24 junior high and 10
senior high schools in Irian Jaya through the Christian Education
Foundation. Father Rumsarwir said that many state schools are
also without Christian teachers. (emb)
