Jakarta, Kompas.com – Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar has announced that his ministry is preparing a comprehensive traveller services scheme coinciding with Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah in 2026.

Nasaruddin stated that the Religious Affairs Ministry is launching the Mosque-Friendly Traveller Programme, which will keep mosques open 24 hours.

“The Ministry of Religious Affairs has prepared mosque-based services through the Mosque-Friendly Traveller Programme,” Nasaruddin said in a statement on Monday (2 March 2026).

The services include security of worship areas and car parks, toilet cleanliness and ablution water availability, mobile device charging facilities, comfortable prayer spaces, rest areas, drinking water and light refreshments, as well as information centres for travellers.

The Religious Affairs Minister also highlighted preparations for Nyepi Day in Bali on 19 March 2026.

He stated that if Eid al-Fitr falls on 20 March 2026, takbiran celebrations in Bali will be permitted but conducted on a limited basis, without loudspeakers, without vehicle processions, and with minimal lighting.

“This is done as a form of religious tolerance between faiths in Bali, based on mutual agreement,” he said.

However, if Eid al-Fitr falls on 21 March 2026, both Nyepi and takbiran celebrations can proceed normally according to their respective schedules.

“The state must ensure that the faithful can perform their religious duties whilst undertaking safe and humane travel during the homecoming season, and mosques must be an important part of such public services,” he concluded.
