Religious Affairs Minister: IKN State Mosque to serve as beacon of religious tolerance
Nusantara — Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar has said that the State Mosque in the new capital Nusantara (IKN) will serve as a beacon of interfaith tolerance, as worshippers there also receive spiritual guidance on respecting other religions and honouring differences.
"This State Mosque must become a place to empower the community, not merely a place of worship. It will also serve as a beacon of tolerance, a symbol of unity among the faithful, and a great house for humanity," Nasaruddin said in IKN, East Kalimantan, on Friday.
Earlier, whilst delivering the Friday sermon as khatib at the mosque, the minister emphasised that mosques hold a strategic role — not simply as places of worship, but also as centres for mental and spiritual development as well as social advancement.
The minister's visit to IKN carried special significance during Ramadan in the new capital, serving not only as a space for worship but also as a bond of togetherness for civil servants, construction workers, and local communities who are collectively building the capital city.
The visit provided tangible evidence and reaffirmed the IKN Authority's commitment that the development of Nusantara is being carried out comprehensively — not only delivering physical infrastructure but also strengthening the values of tolerance, public services, and an inclusive and harmonious social ecosystem.
Following Friday prayers, the minister inspected several infrastructure projects and facilities in the IKN area, including the construction of the Santo Fransiskus Xaverius Church, Hermina Hospital, Civil Servant Housing Block 1, and a Joint Office complex.
The inspection reflected the ongoing cross-sector development synergy aimed at supporting the establishment of a modern seat of government founded upon the values of togetherness.
The Religious Affairs Minister's visit to IKN formed part of Ramadan outreach activities, fostering a religious, inclusive, and communal atmosphere. Amid the ongoing development process, Nusantara is growing as a living space that brings diversity together in the spirit of unity.
"This year's Ramadan is an important moment to strengthen social harmony, whilst demonstrating that Nusantara is being built not merely as a centre of government, but also as a symbol of a harmonious and inclusive Indonesia," said IKN Authority Head Basuki Hadimuljono whilst accompanying the minister.
