Rejected by Attorney General's Office, Sony Sonjaya Now Knocks on LPSK's Door for Justice Collaborator Status
The effort by former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Sony Sonjaya, to obtain justice collaborator (JC) status has not completely ended. After being rejected by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), Sony has now submitted a similar application to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
LPSK Chairman Achmadi confirmed that his agency has received the application and is currently conducting an in-depth review before reaching a decision. “Yes, there is an application submitted to LPSK. It is still under review,” he told reporters on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
Achmadi, however, was not yet willing to speculate on whether the application would be granted. He stated that the entire process would be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations and would involve coordination with several related parties. “Regarding the requirements, they are stipulated in the law. In principle, for any application submitted to LPSK, we will examine it thoroughly and then coordinate further with the relevant parties,” he said.
He also emphasised that the concept of a justice collaborator applied for through LPSK essentially refers to the same regulations. “In principle, a JC is a JC. The regulations are the same,” Achmadi stated. When asked about the Attorney General’s Office’s prior rejection of Sony’s JC application, Achmadi noted that this would serve as one of the materials for coordination before LPSK makes its decision. “We will coordinate further,” he added.
Previously, the Attorney General’s Office had dashed Sony Sonjaya’s hopes of receiving special treatment as a justice collaborator in the alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme for the 2025-2026 period. Investigators assessed that Sony did not qualify for the status. In the latest developments of the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office views Sony as one of the key figures in the case, stating that his role was not at the bottom layer but rather one that carried significant responsibility in the process now suspected of causing state financial losses.
