Regional elections a waste?
Regional elections a waste?
From Kompas
There have been reports about the rejection of the results in
many of the regional elections marked by mobs ravaging public
offices. As a layman, I feel disturbed by these incidents.
The cost of repair following such destruction will be taken
from the state treasury or regional budgets, which really need
the money to construct public facilities or support poor people.
Questions can also be addressed to the House of
Representatives, which decided on the system of regional
elections: Did the legislative body anticipate the consequences
of its decision? Did it calculate the wasting of funds for the
elections?
I am sure tens of trillions of rupiah have been and will be
spent on the elections, money that could have been used for free
education or a children's nourishment program.
Also, with the average so far of just about 57 percent
participation at the polls, did the House estimate the rate of
rejection of election results and the damage caused by such
violence? Did it calculate the trillions of rupiah to be
embezzled?
