Regent's office worth billions

Regent's office worth billions

TUAL, Southeast Maluku: Governor M. Akib Latukonsina told
Southeast Maluku Regent H.A. Rahayaan on Thursday that his new
office building, worth Rp 5.8 billion (US$2.55 million), should
not make him forget his duties.

"Such a luxurious office in eastern Indonesia should, instead,
drive you to increase productivity," Latukonsina said when he
opened the building, Antara reported on Thursday.

Among the challenges the regent needs to handle are the 273
villages whose residents are still living in poverty, and the
poor quality of human resource in the regency.

"This building is important because it shows that the
provincial administration cares enough to provide facilities
which give employees pleasant working conditions," he said.

The building, started in 1990, consists of a main building,
rooms and facilities for a number of agencies, and a cafeteria.
The money to construct the building was obtained from the
region's income as well as from the provincial administration.
The 6,660-square-meter building stands on of a 27,825-meter-plot
of land. (swe)
