Regent Sanjaya States Mandung Landfill Remains Safe for Next 5 Years
Bupati Tabanan I Komang Gede Sanjaya has assured that the Mandung Final Disposal Site (TPA), located in Sembung Gede Village, Kerambitan Sub-district, remains safe to accommodate waste for the next five years. This indicates that waste management in Tabanan Regency is still under control.
Sanjaya stressed that although the condition of TPA Mandung remains safe, waste management efforts must be maximised from upstream to downstream. “The issue of waste is not solely the responsibility of the government, but a shared responsibility of all elements of society,” said Bupati Sanjaya on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Sanjaya mentioned that the government has also prepared various anticipatory measures, including landfilling programmes and technical assistance. Based on checks from the central government, the status of TPA Mandung is still in the green zone.
“Overall, there are no problems. TPA Mandung is still safe for the next five years. But we remain focused on upstream management, such as strengthening TPS3R and cooperation with customary villages and official villages,” he said.
Sanjaya continued that, based on directives from Bali Governor Wayan Koster, the target is for all regions to manage waste independently by 2027. “For that reason, Tabanan continues to strengthen source-based management systems,” he asserted.
Sanjaya noted that waste management in Tabanan has so far received positive attention from the central government. This is evident from the management system that has been assessed as running well, including the existence of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Sites (TPS3R) now spread across various areas.
In addition, the involvement of village communities is also considered quite high. According to Sanjaya, many villages have developed modern teba concepts and village teba, as well as actively coordinating in community-based waste management through customary and official villages.
With these various efforts, Sanjaya is optimistic that Tabanan can achieve the independent waste management target before 2027.
