Regent of Pekalongan Arrested, Golkar Demands Cadres Uphold Good Governance Standards
Jakarta — The General Secretary of the Golkar Party, Muhammad Sarmuji, has called on all party cadres holding government office to conduct their duties in accordance with good governance standards.
Sarmuji stated that the arrest of Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) should serve as a reminder to all party cadres entrusted with government positions.
“We earnestly request all cadres entrusted with government mandates to conduct governance in accordance with proper governance corridors,” Sarmuji said when contacted on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
“We are naturally concerned and regretful about this occurrence,” Sarmuji added.
Sarmuji did not elaborate further regarding internal party information about the case. However, he emphasised that Golkar maintains a legal assistance agency that anyone may access.
“We have a legal assistance agency; anyone may request assistance if they feel it necessary,” he concluded.
According to KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo, “During this closed investigation operation, the team secured several individuals in the Pekalongan region, Central Java, including the Regent,” in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Budi stated that the KPK brought the Regent and several other individuals to the Red and White Building in Jakarta for further examination.
“The team then brought them to Jakarta to undergo further investigation,” he said.
However, the KPK has not yet disclosed the charges against the Pekalongan Regent. The commission has also not detailed the evidence secured during the covert operation.
