Regarding One-Day WFH, DPR Member Warns of Its Impact on Ride-Hailing and SMEs
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of Commission II of the House of Representatives from the PAN faction, Edi Oloan Pasaribu, has reminded the government that the one-day-per-week work-from-home (WFH) policy will have broad domino effects, as it will reduce the mobility of civil servants (ASN) and private sector workers.
He assessed that WFH will directly impact the economic ecosystem of the middle to lower classes that depend on workers’ movements.
Edi highlighted the fate of SME actors, transportation services such as online motorcycle taxis (ojol), and small traders around office areas who could lose income if public mobility is limited.
“We cannot view this only from the aspect of reducing mobility to save fuel oil (BBM). We must consider how SMEs, transportation service communities, and even small traders whose income depends on private sector workers, civil servants, and other transportation services will be affected,” said Edi in his statement on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
In addition, Edi assessed that WFH is only effective as a short-term solution to curb fuel oil (BBM) consumption.
According to him, although this step is quite effective in responding to global oil price fluctuations by reducing mobility, the government cannot make it a permanent or long-term solution.
“WFH for one day per week for civil servants and private sector workers in the context of saving BBM due to global oil prices, I think, is quite effective, but that solution can only be effective in the short term, not in the long term,” he said.
Edi emphasised the importance of the government creating holistic projections and policies.
He highlighted that not all work sectors can implement the WFH scheme.
“The government must be able to project and create holistic policies, because not all sectors can do WFH. Do not let this WFH affect work productivity,” said Edi.
Edi also asked the government to calculate this policy carefully, cautiously, and remain adaptive to the dynamics of global political issues that often affect national economic stability.
The government has assured that the plan to implement the one-day-per-week WFH scheme will not apply to all work sectors.
Minister for State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi stated that this policy applies to certain fields that allow remote work.
