Red Bird's Eye Chilli Prices Begin to Fall
The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has recorded that red bird’s eye chilli prices are beginning to decline as weather conditions improve and harvesting activities increase across various production centres. This development emerged during a coordination meeting on chilli supply and price stabilisation involving the central and regional governments, police authorities, and the Chilli Champion Association.
Maino Dwi Hartono, Director of Food Supply and Price Stabilisation at Bapanas, explained that prices had previously fluctuated due to increased demand, heavy rainfall hindering harvests, and the momentum of major national religious holidays. As late February approaches, production conditions are gradually recovering and supplies are increasing once more.
“With weather improving, harvesting increases and supplies can be boosted to meet market demand, with prices beginning to stabilise,” Maino stated while chairing the chilli supply and price stabilisation coordination meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (25 February 2026).
He detailed that chilli supplies entering Kramat Jati Central Market in Jakarta are currently averaging 14–18 tonnes per day. Retail prices are hovering around 65,000 rupiah per kilogram, lower than in the preceding period.
