Recruitment adverts
From Media Indonesia
A newspaper advertisement recently promised a commission fee
of Rp 1.2 million for anybody willing to go to villages and
recruit potential migrant workers, and this fee would be
deposited at PT BL, a labor exporting company.
Indeed, this sum of money would be attractive enough for
anybody to go to villages to find would-be migrant workers,
especially women who mostly have low education and are easily
lured by the promise of high salaries when working abroad.
Considering that our country is still in the grip of an
economic crisis, working abroad is one way to change one's fate
for the better.
It is not my intention to say criticize labor exporting
companies which have branches in many regions. I am just
concerned about the unhealthy competition among such companies,
especially from the publishing of vulgar advertisements because
those sent abroad are human beings.
The focus of my attention is whether or not there is a clear
rule in the game for labor exporting companies on recruitment fee
and pay deduction in the place where the workers are employed. A
response from authorized government agencies, particularly the
manpower ministry, would be highly appreciated.
