Reckless mall construction
Reckless mall construction
From Kompas
I was shopping at the Taman Anggrek mall in Slipi, West
Jakarta, on Sept. 21 at around 3:30. The line of cars in front of
the basement parking lot near Hotel Orchid seemed endless because
traffic coming in and out of the parking lot. While waiting for
my turn to enter the basement, a large piece of wood suddenly
fell on my car near the front windshield. The wood, which dented
the hood, had nails coming out of it and appeared to have come
from a concrete mold.
Two meters from the place where the incident occurred, a
security guard was guiding cars into various parking lots. After
I parked my car, I noticed that the unfinished part of the
building was poorly secured with wire. The system should have
been further secured with wire netting to prevent loose pieces
from hitting cars below or hurting passers-by.
I appeal to the contractors to take better safety measures.
If not improved, visitors to the mall, or the parking attendants,
might be the next victims.
