Reckless Driver in Central Jakarta Claims Possession of Sister's Vehicle as Police Deepen Investigation
Police discovered multiple number plates inside a Toyota Calya that was driven recklessly and collided with several vehicles in Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta. The driver, who has been designated as a suspect, claims the vehicle belongs to his sister.
“He has not yet confessed, with the reason being that it is his sister’s car,” said Komarudin, Head of Traffic Police at Metro Jaya Police, to reporters on Friday (26 February 2026). He was responding to questions about the discovery of four number plates in the Calya that was being driven the wrong way.
Police also found sharp weapons including a machete and dagger, as well as a toy firearm inside the vehicle. According to Komarudin, these findings are still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim).
“That is being investigated by Reskrim,” he said.
Police are considering seeking a statement from the driver’s sister, with Komarudin stating that whoever owns the vehicle will be investigated.
“Whoever owns the vehicle or holds the vehicle documents will be questioned,” he said.
Earlier, police apprehended a man with the initials HM (25), the driver of the black Toyota Calya that was driven recklessly in the wrong direction whilst colliding with several vehicles in the Gunung Sahari area, Central Jakarta. The suspect has been designated as a criminal suspect.
“He has been designated as a suspect,” said Reynold EP Hutagalung, Commander of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, when contacted on Thursday (26 February).
Meanwhile, Komarudin, Head of Traffic Police at Metro Jaya Police, stated that the suspect is being charged under Article 311 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transport (LLAJ).
“For Article 311, paragraphs (1), (2), and (3),” said Komarudin separately.
Police are also investigating four number plates bearing registrations B-1235-NIL, B-2932-BZF, G-1877-ZZ, and D-1640-AHB found on the suspect’s vehicle. Investigation into these four number plates is currently being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
“Regarding these number plates, we are still investigating their purpose,” he said.
In addition to the four sets of vehicle plates, two sharp weapons and a toy firearm were discovered.
“Investigations into other findings are currently being developed by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Central Jakarta,” he said.
