Reckless Calya Driver in Gunung Sahari Now a Suspect, Faces 4 Years in Prison!
The reckless actions of Hafiz Mahendra, 25, the driver of a Toyota Calya who went viral for his reckless driving in the Gunung Sahari area of Central Jakarta, have now led to serious consequences. After being attacked by a mob and apprehended by authorities, Hafiz now faces severe criminal charges.
- Multiple Charges
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police swiftly charged Hafiz under Articles 311 Paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation.
Director of Traffic at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Pol Komarudin, stated the legal consequences awaiting the perpetrator: “He faces a threat of imprisonment of up to 4 years and a fine of 8 million rupiah,” said Komarudin on Thursday (February 26).
Although a urine test showed that Hafiz was negative for drugs and alcohol, the police found other violations, namely the use of a vehicle license plate that did not comply with regulations, or a fake license plate.

Suspicions arose when the black Calya with license plate number D 1640 AHB was seen driving at high speed on an unusual route. Officers pursued the perpetrator from the MBAL intersection to Jalan Gunung Sahari 4.
In a video that went viral on the Instagram account @amq_mnl, the situation appeared tense as officers tried to forcibly stop the vehicle. However, Hafiz instead accelerated his car against the flow of traffic.
“The perpetrator was initially about to be stopped by officers, even with warning shots. However, the driver refused and continued driving in the opposite direction,” the report stated.
- Hit Citizens and Attacked by a Mob
Hafiz’s escape ended after he hit several motorcycles and cars at the scene. This action sparked the anger of residents and other drivers in the Gunung Sahari area.
The Calya car became the target of the mob’s anger; the rear window was shattered and the front body was damaged due to being hit with blunt objects. As a result of this incident, several drivers were reported to have suffered injuries and had to be taken to hospital.
- Driver and Passenger Secured
Chief of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Pol Reynold Hutagalung, confirmed that the perpetrator is now under intensive investigation.
“We have secured the driver, Hafiz Mahendra (25). The police also took the female passenger in the car. The vehicle was also confiscated for further investigation,” said Reynold.
