Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) encouraged collaboration in improving traffic safety and transportation governance during a meeting with the management of Green SM Taxi at the Korlantas Polri Building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to an official statement, the Head of Korlantas Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, stated that every accident incident must be viewed comprehensively.

According to him, the causes of accidents do not only come from driver factors or human error, but can also be influenced by other things, such as vehicle conditions and company management.

“It is not absolute that the fault lies with the driver. It could also be from the vehicle or management. Even corporations can share responsibility,” he said.

Agus emphasised the importance of evaluating accident incidents, including the recent one at a level railway crossing.

The results of accident analysis, he said, can serve as a basis for improving supervision systems and transportation company governance.

The two-star general also encouraged the implementation of a traffic attitude record system to monitor driver behaviour in an integrated manner, including violation data recorded through the electronic ticketing system (ETLE), to ensure drivers have competence as well as good driving behaviour.

“We are not proud of law enforcement, but we will be pleased when we can collaborate and communicate with partners to find the best solutions,” he said.

In response, Green SM Taxi Director Denny Gunawan stated that his side welcomes the planned collaboration. He acknowledged that there are still several aspects that need improvement, especially in driver coaching.

“We see there are still areas that can be improved, such as retraining. How to build a culture so that drivers make safety the top priority,” he said.

He stated that his side is preparing a retraining programme to build a safety culture as the top priority.

This collaboration with Korlantas Polri is expected to bring more effective and standardised education for drivers.

“With this collaboration, we hope that education from competent parties can become a benchmark for drivers not to repeat violations,” he said.
