JAKARTA – Indomobil Group’s increasingly serious efforts to market electric vehicles are not without reason. Behind this strategy lies strong impetus from national conditions as well as support for government policies. As is known, the electric vehicle brands marketed by Indomobil are currently gaining momentum. From Changan, Citroën, GAC Aion, JAC Motors, to Maxus. Even brands previously synonymous with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles, such as Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen, are now joining the electrification lineup. “So this is indeed addressing the current government challenges, as fuel is expensive and government subsidies are also substantial,” said Chief Executive Officer of PT Indomobil National Distributor, Tan Kim Piauw, in Jakarta (5/5/2026). “So now, Pertalite and Pertamax are still subsidised by the government, and that frankly erodes government funds,” he added. “So we see this as an opportunity on one side, but on the other, it’s also a chance for us to support the government which is promoting electrification,” Tan stated. This commitment is realised through the organisation of the Indomobil Expo, an exhibition specifically focused on electric vehicles. “So the Indomobil Expo is actually focused solely on EV (Electric Vehicle) cars; we don’t bring ICE vehicles, even though we have plenty of ICE models,” he said. Not only as a sales platform, according to Tan, the exhibition is also designed as a means to educate the public. Indomobil aims to introduce electric vehicle technology in greater depth while building consumer trust in the EV ecosystem that is continuously developing in Indonesia.
