'Real Thing' kicks off music tour

JAKARTA (JP): American pop music group The Real Thing embarked on its two-week musical tour in Jakarta yesterday and will later move on to play other big cities throughout Indonesia.

The group's maiden performance in Jakarta was conducted at the Topaz Ultimate Club at Wisma Bakrie, South Jakarta yesterday and another performance is scheduled there tonight.

The third performance will be held at the University of Pancasila campus in Depok, to the south of Jakarta, tomorrow.

Entitled A Mild Live Real Thing Indonesia Tour l994, the band is to present their hit songs, which include Can't Get By Without You, You To Me Are Everything, Whenever You Want My Love, Children of the Ghetto.

The band, famous for their rhythm and blues and soul music during the l970s and l980s, is comprised of the Amoo brothers (Christopher and Edwards Amoo) and David Smith on lead vocals.

The Real Thing is also supported by five other musicians. Although the group has not produced any new hit songs lately, their old hits are still popular and widely broadcasted on radio stations worldwide.

After finishing their concerts in Jakarta, the group will perform in Bandung (Oct. 30), Semarang, Central Java (Nov. 1), Yogyakarta (Nov. 2), Surabaya, East Java (Nov. 4), Denpasar, Bali (Nov. 5), Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi (Nov. 7) and the last concert will be held in Medan, South Sumatra (Nov. 9).

Tickets for the concerts are set between Rp 25,000 and Rp 150,000 in Jakarta and between Rp 5,000 and Rp 20,000 in other cities. Further concert information is available through The Real Thing Hotline: (021) 526-3093.
