'RCTI' plan special round-the-clock shows

JAKARTA (JP): RCTI will go on air around the clock for eight days from Sunday to mark Indonesia's 52nd independence day and its eighth anniversary.

The climax will be a spectacular musical show broadcast live from the Sudirman Central Business District on Aug. 24.

Various programs have been prepared for the double celebrations, RCTI's public relations manager, Eduard Depari, said yesterday.

RCTI has lined up fairly new feature films like Jurassic Park, Speed, The Last Action Hero, Thunderbolt, Judge Dredd and Pulp Fiction for the occasion.

A collection of Clint Eastwood's old films like The Dead Pool, Magnum Force, The Gauntlet and The Enforcer will be among films to be screened at midnights.

There will also be a four-episode miniseries of Evita, with Faye Dunaway in the title role.

Fans of Si Doel will be able to get a glimpse of some bloopers in the shooting of the successful local melodrama Di Balik Dapurnya Si Doel (Behind Si Doel's Kitchen). RCTI has prepared six half-hour episodes.

Humor Ala Mahasiswa (Student Humor) is six half-hour episodes of students competing in joke-telling competitions.

And there is Kebetulan Sekali (What a coincidence), a half- hour sitcom about a complicated elite Jakarta family, starring Sena Utoyo, Misye Arsita, Devy Permatasari, Ronnie Sianturi, Deddy Rizaldi and Dewi Gita.

For sports lovers there is a profile of National Basketball Association star Shaquille O'Neal.

The colossal 90-minute live musical show on Aug. 24, Dari Megalithicum ke Megapolitan (From the Megalithic period to the Megapolitan), is produced Jay Subiakto.

Jay has enlisted the help of Sardono W. Kusumo, Bagong Kussudihardjo and Guruh Soekarnoputra to choreograph the Rp 1.6 billion show.
