The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that all abandoned monorail pillars on Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta have been cut down and cleared. Redevelopment of the area is targeted for completion by June.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said there were a total of 109 monorail pillars previously standing along Rasuna Said. The cutting process was completed last weekend.

“All 109 monorail pillars had been cut down and tidied up as of last Saturday,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

He said that following the removal of the pillars, the provincial government would immediately begin further construction, including the development of pedestrian walkways, drainage repairs, and the addition of green spaces along the corridor.

“We will begin construction of pedestrian paths, drainage channels, parks and so on. Hopefully it can all be completed by June,” he said.

Pramono is targeting a transformed Rasuna Said in time for the commemoration of Jakarta’s anniversary on 22 June. The redevelopment is expected to make the area better organised, more pedestrian-friendly, and more aesthetically appealing.

The Jakarta monorail project had been abandoned for years, leaving concrete pillars standing in the middle of the road. The pillars had long drawn complaints from residents, who regarded them as an eyesore and a blight on the city’s urban landscape.

With the removal of the pillars now complete, the Jakarta Provincial Government is focusing on a comprehensive overhaul to turn the Rasuna Said corridor into a more comfortable and representative urban space.
