West Jakarta’s Civil Police (Satpol PP) seized a total of 2,105 bottles of illegal alcohol during enforcement raids conducted throughout the month of Ramadan. The haul was collected across eight sub-districts.

“This operation targeted illegal alcohol sellers — those without permits whose products circulate freely in residential areas,” said West Jakarta Satpol PP chief Herry Purnama during a raid in the Kembangan area on Friday evening (20 February 2026).

Herry said his office had deployed 192 joint officers to illegal alcohol sales points across the eight sub-districts.

“We are taking pre-emptive action because this has a direct impact on communities currently observing the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.

According to Herry, the widespread availability of illegal alcohol during Ramadan can increase the risk of public disturbances, including street brawls.

“My concern with the prevalence of liquor is that it will lead to brawls. We cannot predict it — people might drink after the evening prayer and then the fighting breaks out at dawn. This is a pre-emptive measure by West Jakarta’s Satpol PP,” he said.

Sellers found in violation will face judicial sanctions in accordance with DKI Jakarta regional regulations. “If they are caught selling without proper permits, we will file an official report and impose judicial sanctions,” Herry added.

Meanwhile, West Jakarta Satpol PP head of security and public order Edison Butar Butar said the thousands of confiscated bottles would be destroyed at the National Monument (Monas) in May 2026.

“The destruction will be carried out in accordance with the agreement reached among regional leaders, including the Attorney General’s Office, the police and the military, at Monas. It will most likely take place in May,” he said.
