Ramadan Moment: 5,000 Orphans Receive Aid and Gifts from Rombsis Indonesia
In Jakarta, 5,000 orphans received cash allowances, gift packs and Iftar meals from the Yayasan Kemanusiaan Rombsis Indonesia (Rombsis Indonesia Humanity Foundation). The orphans gathered at Istiqlal Mosque to take part in the Grand Iftar event on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Andi Idhanursanty, chairman of the Yayasan Kemanusiaan Rombsis Indonesia, said that the Grand Iftar gathering for 5,000 orphans was not merely a routine agenda but a calling of the humanitarian mission carried out by the women’s delegation known as Rombsis, who are steadfast in their work. ‘We want to ensure that in this blessed holy month of Ramadan, thousands of smiles are etched on the faces of orphans, that they feel the warmth and companionship they might seldom experience,’ Andi said at Istiqlal Mosque on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Andi added that the Yayasan Kemanusiaan Rombsis also aims to bring happiness and motivation to orphans so that they remain hopeful, pursue their dreams, and to raise awareness in society of the importance of looking after those in need. ‘Rombsis wants to strengthen synergy between the government, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, and all elements of society in efforts to promote welfare equality,’ he said. The Minister of Religious Affairs (MoRA), KH Nasaruddin Umar, in his remarks, welcomed the initiative of the Yayasan Kemanusiaan Rombsis Indonesia. ‘We greatly appreciate the ongoing care shown by the Rombsis Indonesia Foundation; such activities align with the values of Ramadan and teachings of religion, as well as supporting government programmes to create a just and civilised society,’ Nasaruddin said. Nasaruddin Umar hopes that what Rombsis Indonesia has done can inspire more parties to join humanitarian movements and create lasting positive impacts for the future of Indonesian children. Andi Yuliani Paris, chairperson of the Grand Iftar organising committee, explained that the event enjoyed full support from many parties, including the Ministry of Religious Affairs, local governments, various private companies, and thousands of volunteers within the Rombsis Indonesia humanitarian movement. ‘The attendance of 5,000 orphans was accommodated with adequate transportation and lodging, because we want to ensure they can attend safely and comfortably,’ Paris said. The Grand Iftar event featured a range of educational and inspirational activities from sponsors, including Islamic storytelling, nasyid performances, and motivational talks from inspiring figures. The highlight of the event ended with a communal prayer for the welfare of the nation and all people, followed by gifts of cash assistance and essential goods packages to all orphans present at Istiqlal Mosque.
