Ramadan arrives as a month that strengthens the resolve to increase charitable acts and to extend care to others. This is reflected in a Hadith: ‘The Prophet Muhammad was the most generous of people, and he became even more generous during Ramadan’ (Hadith attributed to Bukhari and Muslim).

This spirit of spreading blessings is being fostered by PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) through a series of Ramadan activities titled ‘Ramadan Madani, Maknai Harmoni’ (Ramadan Madani, Meaningful Harmony). Through a service network reaching 4,655 unit offices, 58 branches, and 36 provinces from Sabang to Merauke, PNM offers a range of Ramadan activities, including lectures after the Dzuhur prayer, daily iftar, i'tikaf, and charitable grants to orphans and the underprivileged.

For PNM, madani is not just a word but a commitment to continually bring benefit to others. This value is manifested by upholding adab, compassion, and mutual respect in every empowerment endeavour towards a total of 22.9 million customers served.

In the Ramadan context, in addition to activities that strengthen spiritual values in the workplace, PNM also spreads Ramadan blessings through charitable activities for orphans and the underprivileged organised by 58 branches nationwide. Previously, at the PNM Tower headquarters, children were invited to learn about the world of work through role-playing, working at PNM across different divisions.

That experience provides children with direct insight into how PNM personnel carry out empowerment for ultra-micro, micro, and small entrepreneurs. The children undertake various simple activities that introduce the roles of the divisions in community empowerment.

Through educational games, the experience is hoped to foster enthusiasm and hope that every child will have the opportunity to dream and to contribute to others in the future.

One of the underprivileged children who is a Mekaar customer expressed happiness at the care shown. ‘So happy to receive all sorts of things—from snacks and money to exciting experiences like this; it feels wonderful to have so many older siblings who care about me,’ they said.

Dodot Patria Ary, Corporate Secretary of PNM, said the Ramadan series of activities forms part of PNM’s commitment to continually embody the values of madani in every empowerment step.

‘We view Ramadan as a reminder to broaden sharing and extend care for others. Through this entire programme, we hope that all stakeholders involved—internal and external to PNM, especially the orphans and the underprivileged—will pray for the best for PNM and for the 22.9 million economically marginalised people in Indonesia whom we empower,’ Dodot added.
