Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr: Banks prepare cash totalling hundreds of trillions of rupiah
A number of domestic banks have prepared cash to anticipate rising demand during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026. Bank Indonesia (BI) has prepared cash in circulation-ready condition totaling Rp 185.6 trillion. This allocation is higher than Eid al-Fitr 2025’s Rp 180.9 trillion but remains below Eid al-Fitr 2024’s Rp 197.6 trillion. Of this amount, Rp 177 trillion is allocated to meet the needs of banking, including cash withdrawals via ATMs and at bank branches. The following outline the cash readiness by national banks ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026: PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has prepared Rp 23.97 trillion to anticipate surges in cash withdrawals and transactional activity during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. This allocation is up about 14.14% from Eid al-Fitr last year, which was Rp 21 trillion. The peak of cash withdrawal at BNI is expected to occur from 11-24 March 2026. During this period, daily cash demand is projected to reach Rp 1.71 trillion. Of the total funds prepared, Rp 16.64 trillion is allocated for filling ATMs and Cash Recycling Machines (CRM). Then Rp 7.33 trillion is allocated to meet transaction needs at BNI branches. “BNI confirms liquidity readiness and a network of services so that the public can transact safely and comfortably during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr,” said Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo in a press release, Friday (27 February 2026). With liquidity readiness of almost Rp 24 trillion, BNI ensures that the community’s transaction needs during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026 can be met smoothly, safely, and integrated, through both physical and digital channels. PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BSI has allocated Rp 45 trillion for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr needs this year. This figure is up 4.95% from Eid al-Fitr 2025, which stood at Rp 42.88 trillion.
