Member of Parliament Rajiv from the NasDem faction distributed 10,000 food packages to residents of Margaluyu and Pangalengan villages in Pangalengan District, Bandung Regency, West Java on Saturday 14 March.

Rajiv described this distribution as part of social activities ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah and as a demonstration of his commitment to remain present within the community. He noted that this visit was his second since being sworn in as a member of parliament on 1 October 2024.

“Almost every time approaching Lebaran after my inauguration, I always come to Pangalengan District. This is already my second time here since being sworn in. This is proof of my commitment to be present among the people of Pangalengan six days before Eid al-Fitr,” Rajiv stated.

He emphasised that the distribution of food packages served as a means of strengthening bonds of fellowship with the community.

“Thank you to the community for taking time to connect with me. The food packages are just so people have something to carry home, but what is most important is the fellowship,” he said.

The legislator representing West Java electoral district II, which covers Bandung Regency and West Bandung Regency, expressed his desire to be a parliament member who consistently serves his community, not merely appearing during political moments or elections.

“I want to consistently be present within the community by providing beneficial programmes. There is no point in being a parliament member if you cannot provide benefits to the community,” Rajiv stated.

During the visit, Rajiv also listened to aspirations from village heads and community leaders in Pangalengan District. He said he received several suggestions regarding the needs of local residents, such as land constraints in the densely populated Pangalengan area, which hinder the implementation of various development and community empowerment programmes.

“We know Pangalengan is quite densely populated. Even implementing various programmes such as agriculture or animal husbandry is often hindered by limited land,” he said.

As a member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives, Rajiv noted that Pangalengan has many horticulture farmers. To this end, he opened opportunities for farmer groups to submit requests for equipment and programmes that could increase agricultural productivity.

Beyond the agriculture sector, Rajiv also highlighted the importance of increasing access to educational assistance for the community. He urged that the number of recipients of the Indonesia Smart Programme (PIP) in the Pangalengan area be increased, especially for children from low-income families.

Rajiv also requested that the village government promptly update data on recipients of social assistance along with welfare data.

“I request that community data be updated, including PIP recipients and other social assistance such as PKH. We must ensure that those who have become prosperous no longer receive aid, whilst truly needy community members are properly registered,” Rajiv said.

During the same occasion, Rajiv presented umrah pilgrimage gifts to three elderly residents who were deemed to have long served the community, including mosque custodians in the area.

“Alhamdulillah, there are three residents who meet the requirements. God willing, they will depart for umrah after the Hajj celebration. Others should not be envious; this is what we call blessing,” Rajiv concluded.
