Rain paralyzes traffic

JAKARTA (JP): Traffic in much of the city was paralyzed for the third consecutive day yesterday due to incessant heavy downpours.

Motorists were trapped in bumper-to-bumper traffic along Jakarta's main streets and thousands of people at bus shelters waited for public transport.

The long lines of vehicles crawling through flooded streets could be seen along Jl. Gajah Mada, Jl. Hayam Wuruk, Jl. Merdeka Selatan, Jl. Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jl. Lenteng Agung and most toll roads heading to and from the city.

According to weather forecasts, the rainy season will not peak until January. (bsr)
